David McCumber

David McCumber, the senior newsroom executive at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, has been the paper’s Managing Editor since 2000.

McCumber joined the P-I in 1999 as senior editor for projects and has more than 30 years of experience in journalism at 10 newspapers. He is a former executive editor of the Santa Barbara News-Press and former assistant managing editor of the San Francisco Examiner.

McCumber was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in 1984 at the Arizona Daily Star for a project on abuses in defense procurement and, also at the Star, directed a Pulitzer-winning investigation into the University of Arizona football program.

His published books include “An Air That Kills,” with Andrew Schneider (G.P. Putnam’s Sons 2004), “The Cowboy Way: Seasons of a Montana Ranch” (Avon 1999), “Playing off the Rail” (Random House 1996) and “X-Rated: The Mitchell Brothers” (Simon & Schuster 1992).
